How to record an album on beat?

My band (Indy) is looking to record an album. We are doing this on our own without going to any professional and have limited supplies. The problem is it always ends up slightly off tempo. We would record a song with the melody and then add vocals and b. Finally, the drums would be added. How should we go about recording all the songs for best results? Thanks
